Still Brewing: Coffee #12

Hello, friends! Happy Monday! Today I am sharing with you all some notes on my Job study yesterday.

"No doubt you are the people, and wisdom will die with you." - Job 12:2

Any wisdom from this world will eventually die and fade away. We will either die clinging to this world's wisdom, or we will live standing on the foundation of JESUS' blood and resurrection.
(John 12:25, John 6:53, John 14:6, John 11:25)

"I am a laughingstock to my friends; I, who called to God and he answered me, a just and blameless man, am a laughingstock." - Job 12:4

People will hurt us in this life, whether they are a child of GOD or not. But, we have a relationship with the One True GOD who will always answer because HE hears our cries and is always there
(Psalm 55:17, Isaiah 41:10, 1 John 5:14, John 16:13, Isaiah 43:1-5)

"But now thus says the Lord , he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I give Egypt as your ransom, Cush and Seba in exchange for you. Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you, I give men in return for you, peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you."
- Isaiah 43:1-5

The last Isaiah passage I put as a reference is so overwhelmingly beautiful. If you need some refreshment in our Only Savior, read all of Isaiah 43. The GOD who created everything is with us at this very moment. HIS people are precious in HIS eyes, HE loves us (v4). HE has redeemed us and called us by name (v1). How can we doubt that HE will be with us in the waters and the fires? HE said that the waters won't overwhelm us, nor the fires burn us (v2). How is the possible? Because HE is with us (v2, v5). I do not know of anything more comforting.

Also, the LORD doesn't just give us a command to complete in our own strength (which is impossible anyway). We fear not because HE has redeemed us and we are HIS. We can walk through the fires and floods unafraid because HE is with us. In our own strength, the storms would overwhelm us; but this is not through our strength, but HIS. The whole passage also mentions no thing that we are doing. It is all GOD and HIS immense love, grace, and mercy. So much gentleness and compassion our GOD has for HIS people.

"In the thought of one who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; it is ready for those whose feet slip." - Job 12:5

Will we live in the ease of this world ultimately making our feet slip, or will we go to JESUS who holds us steady and will give us rest?
(Matthew 11:29)

"On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" - John 7:37-38

The rest we get in CHRIST is like no other. Studying HIS Word always reminds me of this. Listening to Scripture, listening to worship music, meditating on JESUS, praying, talking about HIM with others; just being with HIM, thinking about HIM, and doing things for HIM, all of these things refresh me with only the rest that our LORD JESUS can give

"But ask the beasts, and they will teach you; the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you; or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you; and the fish of the sea will declare to you. Who among all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind." - Job 12:7-10

Everything in creation points to the Creator. Whenever I study something new, it takes no deep diving to see how that subject points to JESUS in some way!

Our LORD is sovereign over all. HE holds all. HE is in control of all. HE ordains all. Let any anxious heart find rest in HIS sovereignty.

Let us rest in CHRIST together as we start a new week living for HIM!

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

  1. When the body is struggling even with a simple virus, it is easy to get off track where our true rest comes from. How beautiful an example you are knowing where to turn for rest.

  2. Sabina, I did need some refreshment so I took your advice and read all of Isaiah 43. Wow! What a chapter! Yes, our Lord is sovereign over all - and that truth keeps me going. Thank you fellow pilgrim.
