Happy Monday, friends! Since yesterday was Palm Sunday, I thought I would share some thoughts revolving around that.
"As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives— the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, 'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'" - Luke 19:37-38
(Full reference texts: Luke 19:33-44, Mark 11:1-11)
The first Palm Sunday, JESUS entering Jerusalem, was actually quite sad; hence, JESUS weeping over Jerusalem. They wanted a king to conquer, a political ruler, rather than a SAVIOR for their sin.
(John 6:14-15, Luke 24:20:21, Acts 1:6)
The same people shouting “Hosanna!” were shouting “Crucify HIM!” just days later.
"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'" - Revelation 7:9-10
Last year, my dad and I studied the book of Revelation together. Chapter 7:9-17 is the future, perfect, "Palm Sunday" all GOD's children will have. What a beautiful picture of all HIS people, too great to number, standing before the Throne of the LAMB. In white robes that were made clean by JESUS' blood. (v14) Waving palm branches, worshipping our LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST.
The picture here is so beautiful and so different. It is so worship-filled and the praise is pure since this will be when we are made perfect through JESUS. All tribes, languages, and nations of all people will be praising our one SAVIOR, together!
That future picture is so beautiful, but let us remember we are to praise HIM here and now! Every LORD's Day, we have an opportunity to sing praise to JESUS with the local Body! These are such beautiful times of gathering to lift HIS Name on high. And those of us saved by JESUS' blood and righteousness, our intensions of praise will be different than those when JESUS entered Jerusalem; because we are praising HIM for the right reason of HIS glory and righteousness.
"Praise the Lord ! Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the godly!" - Psalm 149:1
"Praise the Lord ! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting." - Psalm 147:1
Though sinless and perfect worship with all HIS people is still yet to come, right here and now we get to worship HIM with the local Body, and in personal communion with HIM as well.
"I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being." - Psalm 146:2
"Come praise and glorify our GOD
For we've believed the Word
And through our faith we have a seal
The SPIRIT of the LORD
The SPIRIT guarantees our hope
Until redemption's done
Until we join in endless praise
To GOD, the Three in One
To the praise of YOUR glory
To the praise of YOUR mercy and grace
To the praise of YOUR glory
YOU are the GOD who saves"

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

What a beautiful reminder that our current worship is only a shadow of what we will join in “On That Day!” (Another great song by City Alight)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sabina. While special days are reminders for us of our Lord's life, death, and resurrection, we who are His children bask in His (and only His) Glory every day. Great Blog as always.
ReplyDeleteIt was such a beautiful picture to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteThe sermon I listened to this past Sunday was about this exact same thing! I love the connection of the first Palm Sunday with the Eternal Palm Sunday. I love how you remind us we are to worship God now, it’s a great reminder.
