Happy Thursday, friends!
I want to write about two very well-known verses and applying them to my life in practical way. And by applying, I am not talking about more "to-do's." I am actually talking about the opposite. It was by my legalistic tendencies that I came about this blog topic today!
Reading my dad's blog (Waypoint: Together, Not Just Nearby), I was convicted of my legalistic mindset. Here is a small quote from it:
"I think we too can sometimes find ourselves doing the same with Christ. We’re not outright rejecting Him or forsaking Him—but are we walking step in step on this journey together? Or do we stop throughout the day, share notes, and then move on separately?"
Before I read the blog, I had a couple things I wanted to get done. But first, I needed to have some time in the Word so then I would be able to tackle what I needed to do.
Now, of course it is a beautiful thing to dedicate time to the LORD in HIS Word and in prayer before cranking down at those tasks. But, my danger is in a few places here. One, that it becomes something to check off my list. Two, I don't treat time with HIM as rest, but a rush. And finally three, what I think is my bigger problem in this specific scenario, that I don't treat every single thing I do all for HIS glory and time with HIM!
The third problem is what I want to talk a little bit about today. Everything we do can be, and should be, for CHRIST alone. For this life is not our own.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." - Colossians 3:17
Our work, school, rest, chores, even entertainment, can be all for HIM! Don't get me wrong, being in HIS Word, prayer, and praise, are all such important and crucial parts of our walk with JESUS! But our life with HIM is a relationship that is always there. HE does not just disappear when we close our bible or open our eyes after prayer.
Knowing that whatever we are doing or about to do, can be done with a heart for HIM! Whether it be resting or laboring, we can do so in joy and gratitude knowing that it's all for HIS glory.
“The time of business does not with me differ from the time of prayer; and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen, while several persons are at the same time calling for different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as if I were upon my knees at the Blessed Sacrament.”

I love this quote from Brother Lawrence so much! He had so much joy in living his whole life, every part of it, for CHRIST. Whether that be in devoted time of prayer, or praying while he worked in the kitchen.
I want to live like that. That everything I do be for the LORD. That in whatever I am doing, do it in prayer and communion with GOD because our communion with HIM never stops! What a precious blessing this is. Earlier today I felt the longing that you feel when you miss someone; but with JESUS, we never have to wait nor have this longing! At every single moment HE is with us. I want to live out what I believe.
Refreshing read on what walking with Christ in our day should be more like - while we will stumble constantly, may we strive for not deeper study about Him (as important as that is) but for deeper communion with Him. Thanks as always for sharing. Soli Deo Gloria
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing it is to read your thoughts and all you share!
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing! I remember reading Brother Lawrence's Practice the Presence of God before you were born. A thought I often have is to live in such a way that I find it difficult to distinguish my thoughts from my prayers. Thanks for your profound words.
