Hello, friends! Happy Thursday! Just a simple blog on some encouraging verses for us to rest in HIM.
I am in a season of physical resting, and it can be challenging to not crave productivity and structure. But, resting in HIM is productive and beautiful, and is often overlooked.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah Come, behold the works of the Lord, how he has brought desolations on the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
- Psalm 46:1, 6-10
GOD is our refuge and strength. That is the foundation for this Psalm. The verses leading up to verse 10 talk about HIS mighty and fearful works. We have the gift, the privilege through JESUS CHRIST, to be still and dwell on the beautiful fact that HE is GOD.
It often baffles me what a gift I have received, resting in JESUS, that I often gloss over. JESUS did all the good work on the cross in our place, which we could not do. Let us be in awe of HIS mercy and rest in HIS sacrifice.
"He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
- Psalm 23:3, 6
All for HIS glory, HE restores our souls. All for HIS Name to be lifted high, HE gives us HIS goodness and mercy that was displayed on the cross. All for HIS praise, we get to dwell with HIM in HIS house, forever.
In the beauty of the gospel, the call is only to rest in JESUS' work. Nothing of our own doing, but everything in HIS doing!
"Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” - John 6:29
"He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls." - 1 Peter 2:24-25
Let us rest in our Shepherd today for this glorifies HIS Name!
LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

Another helpful and relevant (for me) post, Sabina. I've been wrestling with the same thoughts recently. Having been a workaholic for most of my life, I find myself feeling rather useless in recent years. Especially concerning Christian service. But, you know, I think God can handle His creation without my "gifts". In fact, He has given us "the gift, the privilege through Jesus Christ, to be still and dwell on the beautiful fact that He is God." What a beautiful thought! Thank you so much, Sabina.
