Still Brewing: Coffee #17

Happy Thursday, friends! Today I wrote about a very well-known verse, and seeing it in its full light. (Haha, decided to do a pun today! ;)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”  - John 3:16-21

A few days ago in my daily Bible verse book I use every morning (thank you for the gift, Ruby!), it was the very well known John 3:16! I love to read the context for the verses, and though the whole chapter is always best, I honed in on this section. And, it just made the impact of the beautiful verse even more great.

Verse 19 really stuck out to me. That light has come into this world, but in our sinful flesh, our desires are to love darkness rather than the Light, JESUS CHRIST.

Even if we are in CHRIST, our flesh still takes ahold of us, and we like the darkness of this world. I know I do. And reading this passage of Scripture really struck my heart. That GOD the FATHER, gave up HIS SON JESUS to be the sacrifice for our sin, so we can have everlasting life with HIM; and yet I sit here and take this for granted. This is not a simple passing thing you hear about, this is our life and the One who loves us.

LORD, convict me and strike my heart when I love the darkness of this world more than YOU. When I love the gifts more than the Giver. JESUS YOU are Light and my entire life, let me dwell on YOU as such. Let me live out as such. Let me gaze over this beautiful verse in humble adoration and amazement. That YOU saved me, who loved darkness more than Light, to be YOURS.

Oh why do I take this for granted! Just writing this and meditating on it all over again fires me up.

If you are currently struggling to see how you can love JESUS more than the darkness of this world, do not loose hope! For this is exactly the context of Matthew 19:26. JESUS CHRIST is saying that salvation and the changing of one's heart for HIM is impossible by human standards, but nothing is impossible for GOD.

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished, saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” - Matthew 19:24-26

Let us marvel at JESUS CHRIST, the Light, and run to HIM and away from the darkness, together!

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

  1. Sabina, you have struck a nerve. Not only in me but in our Christian media. We are enamored with the "the dark side" whether we admit it or not. I recall commenting on a delicious dessert "this is so good, it must be sinful!"Shame on me. I've heard people, who should know better, speak lightheartedly about their dark side - almost like a badge of honor. Your blog has convinced me that I have to do better. Thank you for your courage.

    1. Yes, it's so sad sin is so normalized and praised. And it is all too easy to get swept up into it! Something to repent of daily and to love our beautiful Light above this darkness. Thank you for always commenting, Mr. David! 💗

  2. I’m so glad you love the book! That means a lot to me!
I have been thinking of this recently! Thinking how my deep desire from my flesh is to stray away from God and was reminded that is because I am originally sinful and that is why I lean towards sin and think that is how I’m intended to be, but that’s a lie that our hearts tell us, God created us to live and worship in Him. It can be discouraging but I remember that it is work in progress, I get discouraged so easily and downtrodden, so I thank you for the encouragement, with God all things are possible.
