Happy Monday, friends! Going off a similar theme as my last blog (Our Precious JESUS), I wanted to share some things I'd sincerely encourage you in from my recent time in HIS Word.
I had the refreshment of reading the book of Ezra in one sitting. Getting washed with multiple chapters of Scripture at once is such a satisfaction to a thirsty soul. If your heart is craving HIM, I cannot urge you enough to wash yourself with HIS beautiful Word.
"For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel." - Ezra 7:10
This has always been such an impactful verse to me. Setting our hearts to study HIS Word, that is an action. There is no waiting for a feeling. Ezra didn't wait until he felt like being in Scripture; no, he set his heart to. Our feelings are fickle; HIS Truth is constant.
Listen to many chapters of the Bible in one sitting. Meditate and pour that Scripture into your needy heart. I can assure you, if you pray that the LORD will open your heart, after some time diving in, it will feel like cold water to your sweating mind.
I have been listening to and reading 1 Timothy chapter 1 a lot recently as I am memorizing it, and there is something so sweet, so precious, about the detailed act of memorizing. It has been refreshing. So needed. Five years ago I memorized the book of John (sadly, though I know the book very well, it is not quotable anymore since I never kept it up), and since then, I have not done much memorization. I have missed it so much. It opens your eyes to things you wouldn't normally see, and gives your heart more of a desire to cherish HIS Word.
A wonderful way to live out JESUS being precious to us is to cherish HIS Word. What a gift to have the HOLY SPIRIT in us and the completed Word of GOD in our hands!
LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!
- Sabina
Our God is so amazing! I normally alternate between the Old and New Testament in my daily Bible study. I recently finished a rather lengthy study of Romans so my next OT book was to be Ezra. And wouldn't you know it, this morning I spent nearly an hour in Ezra 7. And the verse you emphasized v.10, was the very same verse I heavily marked. Later on in the chapter, King Artaxerxes had many good things to say about Ezra. Sabina, Your advise about binge-reading generous portions of Scripture at one sitting was spot-on! Keep challenging us! Blessings
ReplyDeleteI love how active and alive our GOD is!! πWhat a touching thing to see that HE had us reading the same portion of Scripture!! Thank you for sharing as always!!π
DeleteI needed both of these reminders (to read and memorize) today - even though dad and I were just talking about them! It is that reminder that “once GOD has spoken, twice I have heard” (Psalm 62:11) GOD only speaks once yet HE allows us to hear it again (and again) until we truly “get” it. I have wanted to memorize but did not take the effort for long. You are such an encouragement π
