Still Brewing: Coffee #23

Happy Thursday, and last day of July, friends! Today I wanted to share something that struck me in Paul's opening address in his letter to Timothy.

"Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope, To Timothy, my true child in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord." - 1 Timothy 1:1-2

What jumped out to me was Paul emphasizing that JESUS is our hope and our LORD.

1. JESUS, Our Hope

"We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek." - Hebrews 6:19-20

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time." - 1 Peter 1:3-5

We have endless reasons to hope in JESUS CHRIST. I absolutely love those verses in Hebrews that focus on our hope in JESUS who entered first into the inner place, and now, through JESUS, we can enter too. This close intimacy with GOD is because, by JESUS' death, HE tore the veil in two. And, the writer of Hebrews adds in the beautiful specification, that JESUS is the high priest forever!

We have life through CHRIST and a hope because HE is alive, active, and reigns right now, forever, and always! Our inheritance in JESUS can never be destroyed, it can never be tainted by our sin because JESUS bled for that, and it will never fade away; all through the power of JESUS' resurrection.

Our salvation is being preciously guarded by our hope, JESUS CHRIST. We know that we would have lost it long ago if it was by our own strength, but it is not, it is by JESUS' strength, which is eternal and perfect.

2. JESUS, Our LORD

"Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." - Philippians 2:9-11

"Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." - Acts 2:36

Let us know, and have a proper fear of GOD, that this JESUS who saved us, and who we live through, is LORD over all. HE is exalted above every single name there is, and one day when HE returns again, every single knee will bow, even those who are not HIS children. Every single person, and every tongue there is, will confess, that HE is LORD, even those who blaspheme and mock HIM now. You will either tremble in awe of HIS worthiness, or tremble in HIS terrifying power of wrath; for HE is LORD

Praise JESUS almighty who is both our hope and our LORD!

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

  1. Sabina, I like to highlight some of your "best" truths from your Blogs. However, today you've made that a very difficult decision for me. Short of cutting and pasting it all, I need to let it stand as is and thank you for your insights. ( How about a little more filler and fluff next time - just kidding, of course)
