Still Brewing: Coffee #21

Happy Thursday, friends! The other day in my morning study, I read through the hymn O Worship the King by Sir Robert Grant and wanted to share a meditation I had from one of the lines.

Your bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.

I was pondering the first line. I was thinking about how no one can fully express the majesty of our GOD. Who can even begin to recite HIS bountiful care? I shall break up this thought into two parts.

1. HIS Bountiful Care
I am sure I have used this well-loved passage before. But, it is used often for a reason; we are forgetful people!

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” -Matthew 6:25-26

How can we be anxious and doubt HIS abundant, never-ending care? People say that they wish they could be as carefree as the animals they see (didn't mean to rhyme, but not complaining xD). Yes, as image-bearers of GOD, we have much more responsibility than the animals

However, that is not a reason to fret about the future! Our gracious GOD takes care of all the creatures, down to even the ants. Would HE not take care of HIS own people? Oh, what a vast reason we have to pour out constant gratitude!

2. Simply, Endless Praise
Oh, what tongue can recite? My pondering on this left me awing and at rest. Thinking upon the thought that no one can ever express the magnitude of our LORD made me realize how precious and "alright" simple praise is.

"Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable." - Psalm 145:3

It can be easy to think we need to change our words or come up with some eloquent praise. I know in my prayers of praise I often have trouble finding words that aren't overused or simple. But, when it comes to praising our GOD, there is no such thing as "overused."

All we need to do is simply praise our GOD forever! One day we will get to constantly give perfect praise without sin. But for now, what our JESUS finds so beautiful, is simple praise to HIM

"I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!" - Psalm 34:1-3

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

  1. "All we need to do is simply praise our GOD forever!" Sabina, your blog this morning has blessed and moved me. For some time now, I find myself throughout the day, (either aloud or in my mind) repeating the words: HOLY GOD, HOLY GOD. At those moments I can't think of anything else to say. "One day we will get to constantly give perfect praise without sin." What a Blessed thought!

  2. Worship inspires worship! Thank you for sharing. Your words also reminded me of one of my favorite parts of Amazing Grace …

“ When we've been there ten thousand years
    Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's praise
    Than when we first begun”
