Happy start of a new week, friends! Excited to start this new week focusing on our perfect JESUS.

"The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life." - 1 Timothy 1:15-16

"So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
- 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

When I was studying those verses in 1 Timothy, I immediately thought of the passage in 2 Corinthians. Our weakness shows HIS greatness. How sinful we are in our flesh elevates how perfectly sinless JESUS is. Our self-centeredness displays the immense, selfless sacrifice of CHRIST. Us being able to do nothing on our own shows how we are fully dependent creatures. We only breathe because of the air HE fills our lungs with.

By seeing our sinful state, we realize—only by the grace of GOD—that it leads to repentance and overwhelming humility. We get to live because of HIS perfect greatness displayed on the cross and the empty tomb. I am oh so weak, but HE is oh so strong. Boasting in our "greatness" is futile, but boasting in JESUS' greatness brings much joy! We have life in HIS perfect greatness!

LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!

  1. Blessings Sabina, Paul's Thorn in the flesh....ah yes -- one of the most talked about, preached about, written about topics in all of Scripture! Do you think it was an oversite that Paul never revealed his thorn to us? No, not at all! I think of it as a Devine Omission,. Now Christians everywhere, from all times can embrace: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” I believe that I've had a particular thorn most of my life and have only recently "embraced" it. Sabina, you always help and inspire me.

  3. This was definitely another one that hit just right at just the right time. I’ve been reflecting a lot on my weaknesses lately, and somehow through peace that transcends all understanding, slowly, learning to take joy in them - for the reason Paul reminds us. God alone be praised. One day at a time …
