Hello, friends! Today I bring you notes in my reading of Job chapter twenty-two. These verses struck me right to my core.
All the time when we read HIS Word, we feel the conviction and areas of growth that we need. These verses were quite literally the first ones I read in my time in HIS Word that morning. They had me making verbal reactions, and I immediately had to make a note. This is something I need to pray about daily so I can grow in this area.
"Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are in the right,
or is it gain to him if you make your ways blameless?" - Job 22:3
or is it gain to him if you make your ways blameless?" - Job 22:3
Conviction city over here! In a disagreement, an argument, or even just a discussion, my motive is often to make my own point known. To want to be right and to have others know that we are right is nothing but a self-centered motive.
Does defending my position bring glory to GOD? Is it lifting up HIS Name? Is it pleasurable to HIM? This is so incredibly convicting.
HOLY SPIRIT guide me. Help me to seek YOUR glory above my selfish gain.
"Is it for your fear of him that he reproves you
and enters into judgment with you?" - Job 22:4
and enters into judgment with you?" - Job 22:4
What is the driving motive that guides my life? Should it not be the fear of the LORD that shapes me? All these "good life lessons" out there must come back to the fact that I want to be more like JESUS. HE is the only one who can mold me into a vessel for HIM.
"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." - Proverbs 9:10
and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight." - Proverbs 9:10
"and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator." - Colossians 3:10
"Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work." - 2 Timothy 2:21
JESUS, mold me to become more like YOU each day. Fix my mind upon YOUR glory so that my selfishness becomes less and less, and so that my desire to honor YOU becomes much stronger than my flesh's desire to "prove that I am right."
LORD willing, see you all for our next cup of coffee together!
- Sabina

Well Sabina, you done did it - introduced me to Conviction City! Maybe I'll run into you there. You know, from a previous comment of mine to one of your blogs, that Pride is my besetting sin. However, I had never thought of always having to be right as pride - which it obviously is! Gee Sabina, you would think that at my age I would know it all, or almost all! When are you going to go a little easier on me? I'm 83 and 3 quarters you know!
ReplyDeleteYour comments always make me laugh & smile; thank you Mr. David!!💗 This was for sure one of the most convicting blogs I have ever written for myself.
